Johannesburg Water are actioning a fabled project called 'Strengthening of Services' . With levies taken from original developers ... and through other sources over time. This project is an upgrade of bulk water supply along a main road in the suburb, JG Strydom Road between Jim Fouche and John Vorster (seemed to be surrounded by old Presidents here ?). I understand the work has been sub contracted but no matter, as long as the work is done, and done reasonably, I'm happy. This seems to be the case, with work progressing logically and steadily as far as I can determine, so in some time to come, we will have a 'strengthened water service'. Proper notice-boarding, proper fencing and barrier taping, so all going well... thanks. Great to see public money 'in the ground' !

Johannesburg Water is undertaking a project along J.G. Strydom Road in Weltevreden Park to upgrade / strengthen water services in our suburb. They have posted noticeboards at logical points next to the project area, as well as fencing off and barrier taping the area to minimise the dangers of people or animals straying into the rather deep trenches that have been excavated. It's great that such logical improvements are being undertaken in an orderly manner. The strange thing is that I have no idea why the work is being done, and how the completed project will actually be of benefit - short or long term. Better communication would improve the situation, as well as an idea of how long the work will take. Otherwise Happy that work is being done !

While we, the public, have empty swimming pools, restrict our laundry washing to once a week and do our best not to waste water, the streets continue to have water flowing down the roads - wasted!! On my way to work yesterday morning I noticed water pouring down Bagley Terrace in Northcliff, over 14th Avenue and down Weltevreden. It was coming from the pavement of one of the residents in Bagley Terrace. I spent ages phoning 375-5555 and reported the problem. This morning, the same problem continues. How many pools could have been filled with this water, how many mouths could have drunk this precious water. Jo'burg Water, wake up and sort out the problems. We all need to work at it - not just the public.

Precious Wasted Water

While we, the public, have empty swimming pools, restrict our laundry washing to once a week and do our best not to waste water, the streets continue to have water flowing down the roads - wasted!! On my way to work yesterday morning I noticed water pouring down Bagley Terrace in Northcliff, over 14th Avenue and down Weltevreden. On the 16th December we had the whole road lift when the water pipe feeding the Linden reservoir burst. Huge chunks of tar lay strewn all over the road with water flooding into one of our neighbours' property (which was on the market for sale). This happened at about 17h00. That very same evening a team of Johannesburg Water staff arrived, dug out to where the pipe was so that it could be repaired and worked right through the evening. When my wife and our neighbour went for their early morning walk at 6am the following morning, the staff merrily greeted them and showed them the massive hole they had made (about 7 foot deep and 6 feet wide) and gave them a proper explanation of what had happened etc. My wife and her friend continued with their walk and then stopped at the 14th Avenue BP Garage (El Corro Motors) and asked whether they could please have 8 coffees to take away for the staff. The Manager gave them, at no charge, 8 coffees with mounds of sachets of sugar. The gratitude from all these workers who had worked tirelessly through the night was priceless. Effort earns reward and Johannesburg Water earned it!!

I have never in my life come across an institution as useless as JHB Water! My water meter has been taken 4 times in the last 5 weeks. The water is turned off so my only conclusion is that it has to be JHB Water that is taking it. When we report it they always say it will be replaced in 24 hours. It takes them at least 3 days. This time it has been a week. Every time I call them they say they will escalate it. Yesterday (5/10/15) I called and I get told that my account has not been paid, that is why it hasn't been replaced. However, when I call the accounts department at COJ they tell me my account is up to date. I have a R400 credit on my account. I never received any notification that my account is in arrears or that has an account number on so that I can find out what the problem is. When I phoned today (6/10/15) the call center agent is so rude and keeps interrupting me with his mind blowing stupid answers that he doesn't even understand what he is saying.

I must say that whenever we have issues regarding blocked drains etc in our road the Johannesburg Water Department are usually here within an hour - they are efficient and friendly. Just goes to show that not every municipal department is badly run

After noticing recently that our (new) outside water meter was leaking, eventually got around to reporting it to the general reporting telephone number. I spoke to quite a hip (but happy sounding) young lady, quoted my municipal account number as required, who then gave me a reference number. Within the usual 10 day period, technicians called around and sealed the leak. Strange thing is that although the leak was fixed (good), nobody confirms that the matter has been attended to ? Maybe Johannesburg Water are "hiding their light under a bushel" ? Wouldn't it be quite simple in today's high tech world for the repairing technician to report the completed work by smartphone (app) created for internal work tracking and productivity purposes, which could also generate a message (sms) to the householder / complaint lodger ? Seemingly small (and cheap) thing to get done nowadays that would have a HUGELY positive impact on perception of service ? Come on JoBurg Water - you can do this !

This morning there was the most disgusting smell of sewage coming from outside our property. There is a big drain there with a manhole cover over it. I phoned 375-5555 and at 14h30 this afternoon Jo'burg water were here to see what the problem was. Unbelievably good service!! My neighbour had the same problem and got exactly the same treatment - same day service!! Keep it up Jo'burg Water!! Greatly appreciated

Despite all the recent problems that we have been faced with from a water and electricity supply perspective, we have actually had pretty good service from Joburg water. We have had major problems with a pipe that bursts regularly outside our property, but they are very quick to respond and sort out the issues.

These guys are not commited to the providing good quality service as should be doing. Over the past few weeks I noticed a couple of burst pipes whilst driving in Lenasia. They only came to attend to the problem late in the afternoon, appauling, so many litres of water wasted! Their call service is also appauling just like Telkom's which makes you hold forever.

As a good Samaritan, I recently phoned JW to report a burst pipe on Glenhove Rd. It took 5 minutes for someone to take my call, they put me on hold for 3 minutes before taking down the details. The person on the other end was not really interested in the water loss, she appeared nonchalant, I got the impression from her tone that she was resentful for being at work on a Sunday morning and that she is doing me a favour. I requested a reference number for which she put me on hold, on hold, on hold..........., I may have been hold for about 7 minutes when I finally cut the call with the hope that at least at a minimum she had the details and would ensure that the problem is fixed.

We generally have the highest quality service & product from Jo'burg Water. Until a week ago. We experienced issue with water supply and there was no notification and such poor communication, I was left wondering "What are they not telling us". But there are areas in Johannesburg that have issues with water supply on a continual basis, such as Sunninghill.

This entity is not in financial difficulty, so what are the issues. Have you been investing into infrastructure expansion? Do you have capability issues? Or, is this a case of poor management?
