It's a shame they did away with the emtire skatepark to make way for water rides and a concert area. All that is left is a snake run which is in dire need of repair, the area around it is full of cracks and not worth skating, on top of that you have to pay ten rand to skate something not worth skating. A few skaters skate there regularly who work at gateway, otherwise it's desolate most days.

A great place to unwind after a busy stressful day in the shops - grab some fresh air, chat with your friends, enjoy sitting on the grass and watch the skaters and the surfers trying to perfect the waves and the skate park. If you are like me and hate busy shopping malls where you cannot hear what others are saying to you this is the perfect place to go to and get some time away from the people pushing and shoving into you.

GAteway is a very big mall and can be extremely daunting and tiring, so the skatepark is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the shopping mall. You can sit on the grass and chat with your friends, watch the people skating, watch as young and old try to master the perfect wave and most of all get some much needed fresh air.

This is without a doubt my husband’s favourite part of visiting the Gateway although he has out grown his skate board he loves reliving the days when skating was his life, and yes every now and then he will act like a child and bust a move on someone else’s boards which becomes a bit amusing at times especially when he makes a mistake.

Some interesting facts about the skater park at Gateway it is the biggest skate park in South Africa and was designed by world champion skateboarder Tony Hawk with input by South African skateboarder Andrew Morck.

However there is so much more than just a skater park as the name suggests “The Wavehouse Skater Park” The Wavehouse also has the largest man made stationary wave namely “The D Rex” which is a mixture of Surfing and body boarding and even has four super tube rides for the children to enjoy… a bit of everything for everyone even if you are like me who just likes to sit and watch all the fun being had with a cup of coffee or an ice cold coke zero

A well kept area for any aspiring skater. From young they flow through the different courses and everyone is on their own litle planet. Skaters love it here and while Mom or Dad are on the beach, the kids can work off all their energy. A great place!

Is a place that my son just loves,,,,,when I tell you that it is a major buzz amongst the skate-boarders, go check it out you will see. The comradeship amongst the boys is so awesome to see and we spend hours there.
