Reading some of these negative review I actually wonder if they are for the same school my children attended. It sounds very much like mixed up, made up mis-information written by a few bitter folk. The school caters for children with high ability and teaches in themes. I’m not sure how this was missed by some of the reviewers? The school becomes more and more structured towards mainstream education as it progresses in grades. The focus is on thinking skills and my children certainly did not lack any foundation when they went to high school. Extra lessons in what? I honestly can’t think of any content that needs to be “built on” and in our experience the maths and English standards are outstanding – my child is doing exceptionally well in high school and friends of ours who also attended Radford have had their child accelerated! We had a wonderful experience at Radford House.

I attended Radford House in Primary School and then matriculated from another private school. I really enjoyed my schooling experience. When I was at Radford it was smaller and was not able to offer very many extra murals but we still had all of the basics. The school teaches in themes and focuses on thinking skills rather than traditional content but I found that I had a fantastic grounding for high school. It took me a few months to adjust to the amount of homework that gets given (!) in high school but I found that I was very well prepared for my school career. I met up with many of the people I attended with school with at the 20th reunion a couple of years ago and we all seemed to feel the same way.
The majority of my classmates have done very well academically and are in University now. Thanks Radford for a very happy experience!

When our child started at this school we were so happy unfortunately this was shortlived. We were assured that children would be allowed to perform at their own strength and not made to feel inferior and stupid if they were not top of the class, marks were not the B all and end all of what they do at this school. This could not be further from the truth ( not something that the management are familiar with), list of names of full marks for test are posted outside of classrooms constantly, the message is if you don't get 100% you are not good enough. It is a real winners only situation. My poor child is now on anti anxiety medication and we have taken her out of the school and placed her in a home school environment to try and build up her self confidence again. Real damage is being done by this school but they pass it off as either the parents fault or that your child is just not good enough. They are not good enough!!!!!

I am reading all these glowing reviews and wondering if they are real or how much the people were paid to write them as they are completely untrue. My husband and I made the unfortunatel descision to send our child to this school and are now paying a huge price in extra lesson! Our child has no basic grounding in any subject, such as Science, Biology, History, Geography, English and don't even start on Afrikaans! This school does not believe in establishing a solid education foundation, they combine subjects under a Culturals heading and do things like chocolate making, sports rules and then expect children to advance to high school and be able to cope with physics, scientific method and just basic things like principles in geography, that they thought were too boring to teach. If there Primary school is so good, why are their High school pupil having to do extra lessons to catch up several time a week?
A serious look at themselves and what they are doing is needed. Parents beware! This is an overpriced, over hyped waste of your money!

We visited the school about a year ago and really appreciated that the children actually visit the school for a few days before enrolling so that we as a family could actually get a sense of how things work, what the facilities are like and the general feel of the school. I feel it enabled us to make a far more informed decision that just an open day or evening conversation allows.

We only decided to finish the current year at our previous school and then moved over to Radford at the start of this year. We are thrilled with the changes we have found in our child.

I love that the school offers such a wide range of activities as we finally found a sport that our non-sporting child enjoys!! I am constantly impressed by everything the schools offers - especially compared with schools of a similar size!

Although the school does not have the facilities that our previous school has we appreciate the smaller classes, academic enrichment and less formal structure Radford offers and we cant imagine ourselves in any other school.

After visiting many school we decided to send my children to Radford House and could not be happier.

Although the school doesn't have big fields, they have many more extra murals compared to our previous school and the other schools we looked at and they compete against other schools in the sports etc. They have a full time sports coach who is always friendly and seems to care about the children.

I don't understand why people expect the same facilities as big school when you are obviously attending a small school?

The school is small and everyone seems to know everyone. I enjoy how happy everyone seems to be when I drop and and fetch my children.

The children are excited to go to school and the themes that are taught are enriching. I appreciate the open door policy where parents are invited to go and hear what the teachers will be teaching for that term at the start of the term.

I appreciate how they keep the class numbers low so that the children get individual attention. I think the school plays are wonderful and I really appreciate how every child is given the chance to shine and build confidence.

The only complaints that I have heard are when parents thought their child would get an award but the child didn't - which makes no sense because the academic awards are based on marks and are not subjective. I imagine this is a common complaint at many schools but parents seem to take it very personally and then start trying to find problems to justify their bad and illogical feelings.

For me and my children - this is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Thank you for inspiring a love of learning! We are forever grateful that we were blessed with a Radford education.

We find the school to be nurturing and exciting. The school has an amazing collection of teachers and the structure of the school allows the teachers to be creative and extend the children beyond the usual text book-and-worksheet format that many schools are limited to. The school principle and the management team have created an environment which inspires teachers to give their best. There are many unique things about the school and I think my kidos particularly benefit from the schools elective programme and the many enrichment days the school incorporates.

I have two boys at the school currently and we are extremely happy! The facilities are what one would expect from a small school and don’t differ considerably from many of the small schools we visited prior to enrolling in Radford. I find the school fees pretty average for a small private school and quite competitive considering the smaller classes. There is a large variety of extra murals and we couldn’t be happier with the quality.

This school literally saved my son's life. At his old school, he was depressed, disinterested and cried every day. When he spoke to me about wanting to end his life, I knew that a drastic change was needed. Then we found Radford and have never looked back. Within just two years, my old child is back, and I thank God every day that Radford House exists.

They actually care so much for the children, and go to so much trouble to ensure that the lessons are fun and interesting (for the whole family).
Yes, they don't have great facilities, but we couldn't care less about that. My child is happy and loves life again.

Radford House is the only school I'd consider for my children. This is our 4th year at the school, and I can't see us going anywhere else. My children have been identified as Gifted by an Educational Psychologist, this label comes with more challenges than one might think. A Gifted child requires significantly different approach to Education to that of the Mainstream child, and a Gifted child in Mainstream Education would struggle as much as a child with Learning Disabilities. Radford House caters to the needs of my children perfectly. I have not had the negative experiences mentioned in other reviews. I've always found the teachers to be professional, caring and nurturing. The Principal cares deeply about the children; and providing them with the best education available is a top priority. Any issues or queries we've had regarding teachers and staff have been addressed in a professional manner. Sometimes parents comment negatively on Whatsapp groups, or in person. Often these comments are based on erroneous information, and in such cases Radford House staff and management do their best to curb the spread of misinformation. Children are never discriminated against because of something a parent has said. The sports fields and facilities are indeed quite small, but the school is upfront about not being a sporting school, and this has never been a problem. Radford House is a wonderful nurturing environment for my children and I expect they will finish their schooling there. They are happy and well adjusted children with varied interests and a wide scope of knowledge, which is the measure I go by.

What an expensive exercise in futility, this school prides itself on being different and way a head of other academically. This is first and formost untrue, after removing my child this year I have spent a fortune on extra lessons and playing catch up. It is neither nurturing or exciting! What is extremely frustrating is there is no governing body and therefore no checks and balances in place, parent are being sold a lemon. Huge problems await anyone questioning the system however, they monitor what is being said in the car park and on WhatsApp groups, and send out harsh warnings to parents, their clients. They are a microcosm of what is going on in our country in the past and now. If you tow and pay out considerable amounts of cash, you are fine but question fairness and you are marked and gossiped about by the staff.Parents BEWARE!

The school was sold as a nurturing and exciting, non competitive environment that offers sport and culturals. None of that is true, the Principal is a charming, pompous know it all, that should have gone on the stage or into door to door sales. He has a business degree but could not organise a piss up in a brewery. There are fancy theories thrown around but basic education is not given, leaving huge gaps in a very patchy education. A large number of the teachers are not qualified educators but are friends or family members of the head and deputy head of the school. As the other review mentioned preference is given to the mass of teachers children and god help you if you question it or the fairness. As for facilities, the school has been a building site for the last two years, with young children crossing a public road several times a day, often unaccompanied by lazy teachers. There are little to no sporting fields and if you have a child that enjoys sport, they will wither and perish, unless they are exceptional and get national recognistion. When my child started there it had a whole different ethos but over the year has grown into the very opposite of what it reports to be. It is expensive, has unqualified teachers, no facilities, will soon become another building site, mixes young children with the new high school children. Such a disappointment.
