Good day I believe in giving gratitude where gratitude is due and despite me having numerous dissatisfactions I do have a specific satisfaction that I would like to place on record. I am very well known at the pediatrics ward at Saint Augustine's due to my sons renal condition we often get admitted to the hospital. Being in hospital is never an easy experience and at some point parents become irate for numerous issues. My high light is a sister called Trisha I am not certain of her surname but she is a sister that usually does the day shift at the SANS pediatric ward, not to mention my son adores her, the manner in which she conducts herself, her treatment towards each and every parent and child that she has an encounter with is phenomenal. I can safely say that this sister gives it her all, she is truly passionate about her job and has an exceptional way of handling the kids that get admitted into the unit, including mine. She is always calm and polite yet super professional. What I truly admire about her is at any given point should you ask this sister a question she will answer and if she does not know she will find out and provide you with feedback. Unlike other nurses she never forgets, when she is on duty I think for many parents it is a huge relief as we have ample faith in her and trust our kids with her 100% purely because she always goes the extra mile.

My husband was admitted to ward surgical 4.the service standards are low,the nursing staff have terrible attitude. If u buzz ya call bell it rings for 10 mins or longer. The staff are loud and unprofessional. He was admitted on Wednesday and the only staff that introduced herself or greeted was the porter. You ask the nursing staff questions they ignore you or say they will bring it and never return. Your surgical ward had no ice packs.....that's a joke how does a surgical ward not have ice packs in stock. He was then given a glove filled with ice....that is unacceptable by any standards. The wars is untidy, used iv drips lying around on side tables, used syringes lying on patients beds.I asked twice to speak to the sister in charge and was clearly ignored.we don't pay so much to be treated poorly like the staff is doing us a favour. Pathetic service Netcare should be ashamed of their nurses and surgical ward.

I had the misfortune of visiting the "trauma/ emergency unit" after having a allergic reaction fever, vomiting, chest pains and itchy lumps spreading throughout my body but I was told to sit and wait, after 15 minutes a nurse comes to take my vital signs my heart rate was extremely high but he said nothing to me I doubt he even reported it to anyone, then he tells me to take a seat in the reception area, at this time I can feel due to the swelling my airway closing up.... my parents tried to get some kind of attention from the reception staff as they were the only persons in sight, but that was of no joy as the reception staff went into the unit and never came out. I myself knowing the seriousness of the situation that I was facing as I had this reaction before and knowing how bad it get in such a short time to the point where my air supply gets cut off completely! I left the hospital and went to Life healthcare Entabeni hospital where the staff were very quick, efficient, friendly and most helpful. I myself being a healthcare professional found the treatment or lack there of pathetic and will not recommend or return to Netcare st augustines hospital again.

Well if I have not had my fair share of hospitals and doctors for a month, here lies my Mom in hospital at St Augustines in Medical Ward 1. Parking is pathetic as inside parking is R20 for an hour which is crazy. Then you have to literally walk 1km to get to where she is -4 underground. Dad and I have been going there for the last three nights and it has been chaos as myself not being well supper has been far and few between as Dad works in the day so we just grab a bite to eat. Well Dad felt like a plain muffin, R27 for a muffin....wow, I make 24 for that price, that is ridiculous. The hospital is just so busy it is crazy. Finally we get to Mom's ward, it is like an oven inside there, one little stool to sit on where thank goodness Dad and I don't have a weight problem otherwise we would never be able to sit on it together, one of us would be standing for an hour. Seriously this is a private hospital that charges the earth, they can do better than that. Mom says treatment has been ok, they have managed to get the food order mixed up for the last two nights!!! Heaven above what is this world coming to where customer satisfaction was supposed to be top priority. It is frightening.

I had neck surgery on 1 April.
    A summary.
    Firstly, my surgeon was excellent.
There was underwear in the bathroom - for 4 days.
The ward was cleaned once in 4 days.
I was left unattended from 10h30 to 19h15.
    The ward was filthy.
During my 4 day stay I heard 2 complaints of theft. I personally witnessed a nurse steal R200.00
    This is the short version.
I lodged an 11 page complaint to the general manager, human resource manager and the nursing manager.
The summary of their alleged investigation is that the fault is because the unit manager was not following protocol and speaking to every patient. If she had, then I would have been able to inform them.
They totally ignored the crisp issue - the filth and total failure to practice good hygiene.
Regarding the theft, they never even asked me who the nurse was. In other words no investigation took place.
This turning a blind eye seems to suggest, to me, that hospital management very well knew about the kidney scandal, but obviously chose to stick their head in the sand.

I arrived at the hospital around 9.30am and was looking for a parking spot in the open area where the exit is. I did not see a cone and accidently bumped it causing no damage to cone or car but I was shocked when the security guard began shouting from the opposite side asking me if I was stupid and "if I did not see the ******* cone" so I asked him why he was so rude and that there was no damage done but he continued to swear and wanted to fight with me. I then told him that I am going to complain about this and to my surprise he pointed the direction of where I could lay a complaint and said go no one can do him anything. I wonder if the hospital does not address the complaints it receives because that's how it seems to be. I would appreciate if this would get some attention and be addressed. My whole family uses this hospital and this will be the last we do. I can't have my family come to a hospital where the people who Suppose to be providing safety and security actually become the problem.

Great location and a huge hospital, probably the biggest I have ever been to. But I had the misfortune of being a patient there last week and I am not in a hurry to go back again. On arrival their systems were down so it was chaos, they had not received my authorisation from my doctors room (which they had been given, miscommunication perhaps?), my bed had been booked the day before yet on arrival at 6am I was told there were no beds available. I was eventually put into a ward that had nothing to do with my condition. There were staff in and out most of the day but they did absolutely nothing. Now and again my blood pressure and temperature was recorded. On discharge I had to ask 5 people to remove my drip so that I could go home, I was about to walk out with the drip still in my hand when somebody eventually removed it.
Very unprofessional and if I was seriously ill and needed 24 hour care this is one hospital I would avoid at all costs.

The hospital itself is also in a terrible state, they need to renovate a lot more than just the reception area. This is an OLD hospital and things break and fall apart and the paint peels off the walls, I do hope that sometime soon this hospital gets some TLC as well as the patients.

I reviewed this hospital in 2011 and was very impressed with it then, but my husband was admitted there today and I am totally aghast at how terrible this hospital has become!!! Firstly they told us to be there at 6am, it is now 1.30pm and my husband is still waiting to be taken for his procedure (and he had to starve from 10pm last night), secondly on arrival we were told they did not have a bed for him and no authorisation code, plus their systems were down (it has been 3 days now apparently) so all details has to be manually filled in by the patient. I phoned the Cardiologists rooms and was told by them that authorisation and a bed booking was obtained the day before already!!! Is this a miscommunication of simply lack of interest?
Thirdly his stickers said his bed was in the cardio thoracic unit, but upon arrival he got turned away and was told they do not have any beds available. He was put into a medical ward, which does not deal with cardio thoracic problems. I find this very unprofessional and the lady who takes you to your ward was not told to take him to the medical ward - she was told to take him to the cardiac ward. Is this how a private hospital should be run? Is this the care patients get when paying more than what they would for a 5 star hotel? I am thoroughly disgusted by this hospital and I would honestly tell someone going there to rather find another hospital. My husband is in for an angiogram and is miles away from the ward that is trained in cardio patients. I am disgusted at the price one pays for such incompetent work.

Pathetic service. This hospital is slowly being dragged by the staff here worse than a government hospital. Whats the use paying so much when the service is pathetic. I am currently in the hospital dealing with so called professional nurses with a god damn attitude . I have videos and recordings and i will be showing all of this to the public media.

This hospital brings both good and bad memories and service, quite a few years ago my daughter Laykin was born in this hospital and then died 12 days later which was a horrific experience which n nobody should ever have to experience but time has healed our broken hearts and we were blessed with a very special boy Jesse. Due to the fact we have a very special boy with a rare chromosome disorder we are always in and out of hospital and if I’m being honest 80% of the time we have good/fair service and then there is that 20% where I had to complain to the matron as the level of care was just not good enough, but the nursing staff have gotten to know us and Jesse and we are happy with the hospital at the moment

I use to frequent this hospital when I monitored in Durban. The parking is not great and the signage to the hospital and the medical suites are very poor. The staff are unfriendly and unhelpful. You can easily walk in circles before you find what you are looking for. I sincerley hope that this has improved.

    Not impressed

I use to frequent this hospital when I monitored in Durban. The parking is not great and the signage to the hospital and the medical suites are very poor. The staff are unfriendly and unhelpful. You can easily walk in circles before you find what you are looking for. I sincerley hope that this has improved.

Standards have dropped considerably! The nurses are negligent, irresponsible & lazy! Especially the night staff!
It's the worst private hospital in KZN!!!!!!!
