I have a funeral cover with standard bank and last year my father passed away and I went to claim and I was told he was covered as a beneficiary, therefore no claim was paid.
Again last week my brother passed away and I was told that he already turned 25 in march therefore no claim will be paid.
there was no communication to notify us that should anything happens, no claim will be paid and also the debit order went off as usual.
    standard bank funeral are crooks
I have wasted my money thinking I have covered my loved ones
I cannot recommend them to anyone, its useless to have a funeral cover with them
    so so disappointed

I went to deposit a large sum of money into my account. I was greeted kindly by a young worker who guided me to a room. The teller was friendly and fast. I was quite surprised that it took 10 min max!!

I've been with standard bank since 2001 and kept dealing with their crap service cause i didn't want the hassle of moving. Now finally after so many years i'm now an FNB client! What awesome service so far. My card was delivered to my door, I've got excellent feedback and all my debits moved with ease. There are so many complaints with a lot of the banks but for me it's like with standard bank each client has all the issues whereas with other banks it's just one or two.

I recently served notice to cancel my bond account as I sold my house. I soon received a statement from Std Bank's cancellation attorneys with a list of the costs I am being charged for, including penalties for cancellation. I then called the Std bank home loans call centre and was assisted by Thabiso Khumalo, who was unable to answer my questions efficiently, and has subsequently provided me with incorrect information that only increased my anxiety and frustrations. I then asked him to confirm his feedback with his supervisor. Thabiso mailed me back with a 1 line reply that did not answer all my questions. I replied enquiring about the balance of the info required. Three weeks later and no reply. Just another reason why I have moved to a better bank.

While SBSA reduced some of their current account charges 'on the back foot' last year, they made up for it in cranking up their credit card charges all over the show (make an online payment and see the stinger missile) as well as charges on business cheque accounts . What is so irksome is the stingers which are also shrouded in complexity and the ridiculous ad valorem tariff structure (value based with minima and all sorts of other bull). Try Capitecs charge calculator to see how much you are overpaying at SBSA ! Unfortunately there are always barriers to exit such as facilities and ATM familiarity but my next new account is definitely at Capitec !

Just went to my nearest SB ATM for a Vodacom top-up. I then rcvd 2 sms's; (a) from Vodacom confirming the amount of the top-up, and (b) from Standard Bank, advising of the activity on my account, with the details. Cool

Staandard bank has ridiculously high bank charges. They constantly bug me by phoning me to buy insurance. I think they really need to work on their brand.

I find Standard Bank to be very pro-active, in terms of security. I often receive "random" calls from them, enquiring/confirming whether I conducted a certain transaction with my card, and whether they can process the transaction. Very impressed!

I've recently been to a Standard Bank (SB) ATM. I was the one who did something "dumb", and then the ATM retained my card. fortunately this ATM is attached to the Woodmead branch of SB. Fortunately I had my ID book with me, and I then decided to run into the branch office. It was mid-week lunch-time, and there was only one person ahead of my in the queue. I soon reached the Sales Consultant, and in under 5 minutes (after showing my ID, signing the requisite forms and answering the required security questions) I was issued with a new card. They even changed my PIN code to the original code. It was as though my card had never been lost in the first place. Well done for service, Standard Bank.

Generally standard bank private banking has no wow factor. Not value for money but does offer a degree of convenience. The transactional banker is quite efficient.
