Thank heavens something cultural makes it onto the Top Ten list and with 4.4 out of 5 the Apartheid Museum in Ormonde delivers a stark reminder of where we’ve come from and how far we’ve advanced the cause for a bigger, better, brighter future for all. Not the “lightest” of experiences but a place every South African should visit and appreciate for what it is .

Apartheid Museum is a must see if you are at all interested in the history of Apartheid. There is a LOT of information which can be a bit overwhelming for a first time visitor, but it is very educational about this part of South African history. The design of the museum has interesting elements which helps break up some of the written information

A really great museum that holds so much history. This museum takes you through time and definitely gives you a better and more clear understanding of Apartheid. The illustrations are clear, the material true - this museum opens your eyes in a way nothing else can. It made me sad because I did not realise how brutal it was.

This is one of the main attractions of Joburg! A must visit for every tourist to understand the struggle of one man who fought for South Africa. Some of the pictures are horrifying and one room had several lassos to indicate how people were brutally killed!! Does give you a feel of how difficult life was for the oppressed.

The museum also has some letters & artifacts of Mahatma Gandhi!

I found the journey of the inception of apartheid to current day politics immensely interesting. You can arrange for a guide in advance, but we did the self tour, giving us more time to spend on those abstracts/pictures that we were keen on. The video that is shown in the auditorium is sure to send chills through your spine.

This is a very interesting museum and fairly similar to the Hector Peterson Museum in Soweto. It is a very big hit amongst tourists and a must for all young South Africans. You need a pick me upper after this so be warned. Luckely the theme park is right next door

The Apartheid Museum is a must for every South African. Its gives the visitor a rich interactive experience to South Africa’s history. I felt proud to be South African, after going through the museum. I would off loved to support the museum by buying something from their gift store, but the store however was a bit thread bare. Overall it’s a great museum!

If you're South African, it should be built into your school curriculum that you're taken for a visit to the Apartheid Museum. It's the most moving and emotional museum South African's can visit. It's a cathartic journey from the evils of Apartheid to the Freedoms of a Democratic State.
