Our vehicle has been broken into twice at Gateway. On both occasions our vehicle was locked and items were stolen from the boot. The most recent incident occurred between 15H00 and 16H00 on the 2nd May 2017 in the open E pay parking. There are cameras up in the parking lot, there were about 3 guards standing around talking, car washers, trolley stackers, etc etc but no one saw anything. Centre unhelpful. Two other vehicles were broken into at the same time. One would think as soon as the centre is alerted to the crime, they would jump into action and alert their guards to do a perimeter search, view footage, etc to assist their patrons BUT DOES NOT HAPPEN. Apathy is the order of the day and no action is taken and there is absolutely no interest at all to assist immediately to help find stolen items. I know of people who uber to Gateway and leave their vehicle at the office as it is not safe to park at Gateway.

I'm always blown away by the sheer size of this shopping centre. We don't visit often but when we do it's always amazing. There are so many speciality stores - Lindt, Nespresso, etc - that you just don't see elsewhere. The only problem I have is that it's so big that it's often a long walk between the store that I need to visit.

During the festive season we were privileged to have an easily assessable vacant parking bay, found with ease. A beautiful centre to enjoy just flip flopping and breezing through the different levels. There is a wide variety of stores which makes it easier for the "Last minute shopping list".
Found the entire centre to be immaculately clean. It was a bit crowed but one could still gain easy access in and out the various stores. The food court was simply amazing. The abulutions were also well maintained. Considering the fact of it being peak season, the centre management was still able to secure both shoppers and staff, unlike other malls, there were no vehicle thefts brought to our attention for this period. The information desk was knowledgeable and personnel were friendly.

Clean and secure but parking is a nightmare, you pay a fortune to park and you have to walk miles to get to the mall. It is a very busy mall every day of the week so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk for a long time as this mall spans many km's :-) There are really great shops and also some very exclusive boutiques. The information desk is very helpful and will help you find your way around. Take a walk out to the wave house and get some fresh air or go and watch the skaters at the skate park - great for family outings.
Restaurants are very good with a large variety of cuisine to choose from.

The parking, security, information and cleanliness is all spot on but the mall is very big and always crowded, it is so bad that one cannot and actually you do not want to even go to a restaurant or into a shop. Clicks is the absolute worst with queues that will hold you up for hours!!! If you are looking for a nice weekend shopping spree I do suggest you go to another shopping centre that is a bit quieter and has the same shops. Maybe I am just not one for crowds but when one gets so claustrophobic due to having to push your way through people just standing around talking you need to get out!!!
I will not suggest seeing a movie here as it is definitely not well run and you will end up late for your show due the lack of service in the refreshments queue.

A clean mall where information is easily accessible but not a mall for the ordinary working person. This mall has tons of boutiques with the most expensively priced merchandise. Yes, they do have the usual chain stores but the majority of shops are clearly here for the rich people. The restaurants are good with a great variety to choose from.

The mall itself is very big so be prepared to walk and walk and walk. Shops like Mr Price, Edgars and Woolworths are really nice to go through because they are bigger than the other mall stores and have products I have not seen at Pavillion or Galleria.

Parking is ample, with different entrances so know where you are going before you choose a parking area.

It seems I always end up visiting this place at least once when I visit Durban. This time I managed to be there twice.During the day to get some shopping done and in the evening to meet with friends.parking is safe but there are warning signs advising customers of remote jamming which seems to be common in most shopping centres. Variety of spots to eat and chill, we had a great evening catching up with friends and enjoying a cools night. If its shopping you want, get your walking shoes, because there's many a shop to visit should you wish to spoil yourself

At least twice a month we like to visit the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, we enter at one of the many entrances to the under-ground parking where there is more than enough secure parking at reasonable rates they even have security guards patrolling checking for any unscrupulous would be criminals.

We prefer to go towards the afternoon when the mall is not so hectically busy. The Gateway is by far the biggest shopping centre I have shopped in, on the East Coast of South Africa. The Gateway has been designed very well it boasts some awesome architecture and has very wide walkways which makes the mall appear less congested in the busy periods.

The Gateway has a lower ground floor that hosts the 2 major super markets (Checkers hyper and Super Spar). The ground and first floor host all the big name, big brand shops while the second hosts the Ster-Kinekor cinemas, Food Court and children’s amusement centre. The Gateway is also the home of IMAX theatre, Barnyard theatre and the Wave house with Skater Park.

We start off our little adventure by browsing the many stores and hunting for any bargains that we may find and need, then we like to get a take-away cup of coffee from one of the many coffee shops and watch the guy’s and gal’s enjoy the wave house and skater park.

Then we like to do the weekly shopping which takes us mainly to Woolworth and Checkers, by this time we have worked up quite a hunger and it’s time for us to enjoy a dinner at one of the many restaurants our favourites are Spur, John Dory’s, and Cape Town fish market or if we have had a big lunch we enjoy just a quick filler from one of the fast food outlets located in the food court once again our favourites that we enjoy are Debonairs , Steers, KFC which have now move outside the centre and Nando’s.

So no matter what time you decide to visit from morning to night up to about 21:00 – 22:00 inside the shopping centre, no matter what your age young or old and both Male and Female will enjoy the Gateway theatre of shopping it has it all food, clothing, sporting stores, banking, jewellery and entertainment not forgetting to mention the toilets are always clean which is a positive especially if you need to go and can’t wait until you get home or if you are from out of town back to your accommodation . The Gateway theatre of shopping is a must see, if you are in the Umhlanga Durban area.

A monstrosity of a shopping Center in the heart of Umhlanga. So many shops to go to and a bit of everything. A brilliant well run shopping center with easy accessibility and a pleasure to shop at. Just that you walk miles and must wear comfy shoes. Well worth the exercise. I love it.

Gateway is one of those malls that could be packed to capacity but it doesn't feel that way while you are strolling around inside. The very high ceilings and wide corridors make it a pleasure to meander around.

There is some unique, great entertainment offered for both kids and adults. The wave house is a fun place to hang out with a cup of coffee and watch the kids catch some waves and the Barnyard theatre is always a big hit.

    An enjoyable time is guaranteed.
