Unique lifestyle complex inclusive of upmarket offices, apartments, shops and restaurants, creating a unique upmarket and modern village atmosphere.Johannesburg has been infused with a new evolutionary energy. Melrose Arch has created a destination in sync with the 21st century. Open spaces replace the cage and the cocoon, life pulsates on the streets once again.

A very relaxed atmosphere where you will find hints of London, Paris, New York and Milan - all totally unaffordable but so nice to look at, a very European feel and you do feel like you are shopping on a sidewalk in Paris. They have a gourmet market every Friday and Saturday which is quite an experience!!!!
Loads of shops I have never even heard of but also shops we all know like Edgars. Ocean Basket is a great familiar eatery as well as Moyos, but I find Moyos very overrated and expensive. Of course if you are staying the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice then I suppose you are someone who is looking for these designer shops :-)
Loved walking around but would not go there to shop or eat as it is really way overboard with exorbitant prices.

Melrose Arch is a great escape from the usual Malls in Joburg. The selection of stores is not that amazing or cost efective, but thats not really why you go to , its more for the airiness and illusion of street shopping than anything else. They do have a good selection of places to fill you up, with the best milkshakes (fire and ice) and dessert (creme brulee -Pigalle) that Joburg has to offer.

The Ratings need to include "Shopping Experience". There is a fine selection of stores but they are never busy. It seems like the only places that make money are a hand-full of restaurants. I never shop here, far too expensive, but I enjoy a few restaurants. Some of which are way over rated e.g. Moyo's and The Orient. If you are a tourist, and if you don't mind paying a premium, then this is perfect but there is greater value in other areas in Johannesburg.

Love Melrose arch. It is such a different shopping experience! It does not feel like you in a mall, but rather between shops on holiday somewhere. There is always a great vibe...

A new term in the English language - "It's like looking for a globe in Melrose Arch". If you need a life basic - like an electric light bulb (and many such other basics for that matter - a newspaper, a packet of cigarettes ?) you will not find them - for love nor money. On the other hand if you need to choose a particular brand and shade of lipstick, you will be spoiled for choice. Where the apartment residents buy little daily basics, I have no idea - I suppose they just eat out ?!?

Melrose Arch is unique. It's got charm and now that the shopping mall has been extended, I love it even more.

I feel like I am overseas whenever I am at Melrose Arch, it's just got that international feel about it.

It's a pleasure to shop at or just window shop. There is a nice selection of restaurants to suit any mood and company.
I would also like to mention that the people who visit Melrose Arch, have an impact on me, with regard to their behaviour. They have common courtesy and don't get in your space, so that's always appreciated.

I love Melrose Arch! The atmosphere here is truly amazing. When here I feel like I'm in Europe just strolling along happily. I haven't seen a single information desk. There is a great variety of shops, hotels and restaurants.

Recently had a little time to browse around Melrose Arch, which reminded me of how much I love the street village / 'pavement cafe' atmosphere, complete with cobbled and windy walkways. The way in which the complex has been designed truly combines the best of old and new, with a genuine outside character 'street' look and feel, underpinned by a generous parking lot and more modern stores 'camouflaged' beneath street level. The apartments, the hotel, as well as the offices all manage to coexist in a harmonious manner. However, the parking lot is almost a complete contradiction, and the true complexity of the design becomes strangely transparent in the labyrinth beneath the surface that they call the parking garage - complex twists and turns, sloping ground surfaces, seemingly randomly - placed staircases and liftshafts, creating a massively confusing space for a hurried shopper. Whilst signage is almost non existent in the lot (perhaps it would be impossible to signpost anyway), staff are very obliging with directions as they are frequently barraged by 'lost' patrons. If the objective of the designers was to ensure that patrons spend a long time finding their way around, this has been achieved admirably (must have been the same architect that designed the OR Tambo airport buildings - it does get very tiresome actually !)
