I have applied for a travelling document in September 2015 and the officer said it might takes 6 to 8 weeks because i first time applicant permanent resident. but it takes more than 8 weeks and until know I'm still waiting. When i phoned customer care center, they said my application was received in September and it is in fingerprint verification. I don't know how long that verification will take.Case number has been opened but no one seems to care or gives the feedback of the delay. It is totally quiet from Home affairs and I'm don't know whether I will receive the travel document or the application will remain indefinitely in process.

I applied for my son's unabridged certificate in March 2015, It is Ending October, still didn't receive it & we are travelling in December.
There are no reasons why there is a hold up & you cannot re-apply, you need to fill in a form & they will give us a letter that will be accepted to travel, so the heading has the correct name & in the body of the letter, the name is wrong, I mean come on, how dumb can you be ??????? So I go back for them to rectify it & they take 45minutes to re-do the letter & that place wasn't busy at all, they were all more interested in chatting in the back. There isn't anyone you could complain to because all of them are the same. The lady Nondi that typed the letter had attitude & a male by the name of Henry. HOME AFFAIRS EDENVALE HAVE MOST PATHETIC EMPLOYEES !!!! that I have ever come across.

I am so glad the implementation of banks being able to do passports and ID's will be in effect soon. Maybe we will be able to get better quality of service. I wonder what the H/A staff will do themselves now... they will have even more time to not assist the public when needed. Govt implements these new laws and policies and when we as citizen abide by the rules and regulations all we find are obstacles and almost impossible assistance. Its actually very sad and to say the least frustrating. I truly hope they try a lil harder wouldn't be that difficult to do.

Colleague of mines daughter has been at the Home Affairs office since seven this morning applying for her ID card. At 08:30 the camera went off line by the way one has to have your photos done here!! Something they don't mention when you call them to ask advice. They are not allowed to move out the queue as they will lose their place. Have to pay R2 to use the toilets. They are waiting for a technician who at 14:12 has still not arrived!!! Staff are extremely rude and not helpful at all. Pity one cannot outsource this to a company that can assist one. This is her fourth visit to Edenval Home Affairs and I do not think it will be her last!!!

I applied for a copy of my marriage certificate on the 6th February 2015 and I was told that it would take 6 weeks.
Four months later I'm still waiting. I have called the Home Affairs office in Edenvale and Pretoria 6 times with no avail.
The Home Affairs is an absolute disgrace to say the least.

On Monday, I went to Home Affairs to obtain the details of the Home Affairs Official. My request for the lady’s name was ignored. The supervisor informed the lady, who then proceeded to hide in a back room.
It so happened that the Leadership Team of Home Affairs was having a meeting at Edenvale, and I was then able to speak to the Gauteng Provincial Manager - Mr. A. Matsaung. He was very helpful and showed me records that the system went down at ± 9h40, but was back online at 10h45. Furthermore, he said that the officials did not have the right to send citizens home as there was no indication that the system was going to be offline for the whole weekend.
I also managed to speak to the Deputy Director General - Mr. V.Mkhize; who was also very helpful and shocked at the behaviour of the Homes Affairs representative.
Both, Mr. Matsaung & Mr. Mkhize said that the appropriate action had to be taken to resolve this matter and to prevent future incidents.

I have opened a case against the woman who assaulted me and am appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident and is willing to step forward to, assist me in any possible way.

After various failed attempts to go pick up my passport and ID card, today I decided to just go sit and wait to get my stuff. Knowing full well that on a Saturday I would have no choice but to wait. And so I did... Got there at 08h00 and stood in the burning sun with MANY other fellow citizens waiting for my turn. Behind me stood a heavily pregnant lady, so in my goodwill I went to ask the security guard if she could allow this pregnant lady to at least go inside, have a seat and wait her turn. Her reply "We don't even allow senior citizens to do that. Everyone must stand in the line!" WOW!!!! What happened to humanity?????

But my "story" does not end here... As the queue moved along at a snail like pace and I began to get closer to the entrance door... AND BOOM! We get told that the system is offline and that it will be offline for the rest of the weekend! How convenient...Having had a previous experience as to their "offline system", which by the way was discovered by a fellow citizen that it was merely a plug socket that was switched off ...; I decided that I was going to wait a bit longer to see if the system would come back online. So I approached the door, where a home affairs lady was standing very arrogantly sending the people home, and asked her if I could wait inside seeing that the Home Affairs only closed at 12h30 (it was about 09h45 at this point). Her reply was a screeching NO. She began to close the door on my face, so I grabbed the door and opened it and told her that I was in my right to ask and closing the door in my face was not a solution. I was angry now! Well, what happened next is something that will torment me for years to come... I was yanked, pushed, shoved and thrown by this woman as well as by the 2 security guards. Being treated like a criminal...scratched and bruised ... and with the crowd of citizens starting to shout and scream at them; they finally asked me to go inside. Here I was met by another "very amicable lady" who kept shouting at me in her language (contents to which I did not understand) and screaming "You must be arrested!!!!" I agreed... I asked her please to call the police as I would have some scratches and bruises to show them. I was then told to go to the managers office. Here I was finally treated like a human being ... He gave me water asked me to calm down - because at this point I was completely out of control.. the damage had been done. He gave my a more detailed explanation as to why the system would be offline, and I was asked to come back on Monday and they will assist me by giving me my passport and ID card and...I DON'T EVEN HAVE TO STAND IN THE QUEUE.... kind of makes me wonder....what is this coming to? With a system that is more "offline" than "online" surely solutions need to be made to accommodate us citizens... who by the way... are the ones who pay their salaries !

My husband and I went to home affairs-Edenvale a week ago 15/04/2015.The service we received was disgusting. We got there at 7am,we waited outside for 2 hours, we finally got inside the building only to wait another 4 hours with our son who is only 15 months. They messed up the system with the tickets and payments. Some people from the back got served first. It was a circus. No order, and incompetent staff who don't know what they doing. We finally get to take my sons picture. They didn't have a kiddy friendly chair for my son to sit and refused for me to stand next to him to hold him. They insisted that he stand on the chair by himself. They took so long to take the picture that he flipped over and fell flat on his head. They could of killed my child cause they were unprepared. This is the worst branch ever. I don't recommend anyone to use this branch especially if they have a child. We eventually got done 30 min later. I'm dreading collections.

I applied for my passport this morning. I arrived before opening, and was pleasantly surprised that the doors were opened at 7:30 - by a security representative wearing a smile. We were then assisted into the right queues, and the system worked perfectly from there. After having paid, had photos and fingerprints taken, and my application logged, I was out by 9:10.

The staff were friendly, had a sense of humor, and were very helpful. Would happily recommend based on my experience!

In February 2011 I went to the Edenvale Home Affairs to get re-married. I was told that I was still married and my ex-husband was divorced, I gave them the copies of ID's and a copy of the Divorce decree Case number 7749/2005 they said they would book a date for me, but when I phoned they said that I was still married. My husband and I got remarried on June 17 2011 and were assured that all would be sorted and we just needed to bring a copy of marriage certificate to get the new one. Marriage Certificate J4130869. when I went to collect it and I was told that the marriage has not been registered yet. I applied for an full marriage certificate 21 Oct 2011. I have sent e-mails to Gauteng and then they told that I need a copy of original marriage certificate from Zimbabwe, which it took great difficulty to get and at great cost to me and finally got them and presented them again to Edenvale with copies once of IDs, Marriage Certificate, Divorce Degree. I was told by the manager that they would sort it out last year in August she took my cell number but to date have heard nothing and the times that I have managed to get a lift as I do not have transport, was told they were off-line. I would like a reply as I want to register the marriage with the Swiss Consulate and take my husband to Switzerland for treatment of his TB as he is not getting better here. I wanted to be come a Citizen but with that has gone before not sure how long this would take.

My son and his wife applied for their unabridged birth certificates and marriage certificate 2014-03-20. His wife's birth certificate and their marriage certificate came through in June 2014. I could never get through Edenvale and they never contacted me about the arrival of any certificates. I managed to get through to Home Affairs customer services (0800601190) in July 2014, regarding my son's birth certificate. It had apparently arrived with a mistake and sent to the moon and back. After multiple phone calls, the matter being escalated numerous times, it was only after sending an email to www.dha.gov.za that anything positive happened. Two weeks later I got a call to say it was at Edenvale. After two x 3 hours of queuing at Edenvale and being unattended to and sent home, I don't know what to do and can't bear the thought of standing in the baking sun as a pensioner for another unsuccessful 3 hour queue. When I applied for my ID they were "offline" till 11;30 we spent the day there from 8;30-15;00. Although they had been offline all morning when 12;00 came everyone stopped what they were doing n went to lunch leaving 3hours worth of missed clients to wait even longer !---PATHETIC
when I went back the following weekend to collect it , they were "offline" for the whole day , another waste of my entire day !---PATHETIC
the following weekend I went again , arrived at 7;30, people infront had been there since 6 knowing the only way to get helped is to be the first in line .. in 2 hours they had let 20 ppl in .. then said that they are only helping the 20 that were inside . at 9;30 doors closed n they refused to help anyone further ! ---PATHETIC
ill be going back tomorrow n guarantee ill be the first in line

I applied for my vault copy birth certificate on 5 September 2014, after standing in the wrong queue for 15 minutes until someone came out and eventually told us where to stand for what, i stood in line for 5 minutes so in that regard their service is better then other home affairs! I was assured i would have my certificate in 6-8 weeks and a sms would be sent notifying when i could collect! Its now going on nearly 5 months and i havnt heard a word and surprise surprise no one answers the phone! For goodness sake its absolutely pathetic the level of service in this country! Government bodies that cant even answer a phone!!!

The staff is unprofessional and the centre is more offline than online. The phone is constantly engaged.
