I applied for an unabridged birth certificate on 08.03.2013 and to date i am without the certificate. I need it for many reasons, like now it is needed for high school applications. I has gone in several times to follow up and each query I had to complete a new application. Their reason ws that the documentation was incomplete(I did however complete the same information for my other tow kids and their certificates were issued within a week).
I have tried calling on 031 7100100 but no one answers.

I was there a few days ago to apply for my passport renewal. Was informed by security to take a number and queue outside in the blazing sun, along with everyone else applying for id smartcards.
This started at 8.30. I eventually got inside at 12.45pm. Applying and paying was relatively quick (approx. 15min). Having photographs and fingerprints (all done digitally) took another 2.5 hrs. I left at 3pm !!!!!!

The staff were sullen, unfriendly and unhelpful.

Some of the people in the queue who were lucky enough to have others with them would go and see what was taking so long, a few times we were informed that there was hardly anyone inside (in an airconditioned building) but we had to wait in the sun until they let 10 people at a time in.

I seriously hope the Pinetown branch get their act together.

I walked in and looked around me and wondered where the professionalism has gone? Staff were walking around not helping anybody, there were queues of people yet nobody at a work station. WHen asking which queue I should stand in to get my business done I just got a point of a finger towards a room which was empty and when I asked where the person was who would help me I was told they were having a tea break and that there was nobody to fill in for them.
They are not situated in a safe area (actually none of the home affairs departments are except for Park Rynie), and they charge for parking, which can be very costly considering it is not an in and out business, you wait in a queue for hours.

This Home Affairs Office is situated in a very dangergerous and difficult part of Pinetown.
Firstly I almost drove right past the office due to poor signage.
There’s only a few parking’s available on the roof of which only one is dedicated for disability however cannot be used as the parking bay has dustbins and rubbish loaded in the space. And on top of that they have the cheek to charge R10 per hour.
After walking down the steep driveway and into the door of the Home Affairs Office there was complete chaos.
I asked the security guard Maxwell for assistance as to which queue I should join to have my fingerprints verified, he rudely just pointed and said follow that gentleman which was confusing as there were so many people in the Home Affairs Office. Seeing as I still was not helped I then proceeded and asked one of the floor managers as to which queue to join as the serving counters are not clearly marked. She was just as rude as the security but did point me in the right direction.
Once I was sitting in the correct queue I didn’t wait long before I was in front of the line.
I was served by a young lady who was very helpful in every way and she managed to verify my fingerprints and I was finished in the office.

I applied for an unabridged birth certificate at this branch 3 and half months ago and I still have no idea when exactly I will obtain it if ever. I was initially told I would obtain it after 3 weeks by the DHA official. First time I submitted all the documents they asked for including an affidavit confirming my parents (which they said was not needed with the application). After a month I was called in again to fill out the DHA25 and DHA288 . I thought I was done but I was asked to come back last week to fill another DHA25 and DHA288. When I told them I already filled out these forms the lady who was helping me told me all she knew was that I had to fill these forms and had no idea of the prior filling? To this day I have no idea about the current status of my application, neither of the whereabouts of the first DHA25 and DHA288. One always gets stuck with a deadpan expression when you enquire the officials about the procedure to obtain this document. Today marks the end of 4 months since I lodged the application and there is no evidence things have moved beyond the Pinetown branch offices. I'm beyond fed up.

I'm sure the worst thing about going to a goverment department is standing waiting to get served this alone is enough to drive a person crazy.... Well apart from the long wait the service I received was average, but I must mention the server was pleasant helpful and friendly especially after a cracked a joke to brighten up her day

I made an ID application for my 16 year old son on 29/05/2014. I was very impressed with the ladies at home affairs who checked up on completeness of the application forms while waiting in the queue. I had to make some corrections on my form as suggested by the host ladies before reaching the counter. This saved me time. Good professional service.

I was also informed that I could make application for my son's passport after 4 weeks once his finger prints were captured by homes affairs during the ID application stage. I am however very disappointed that I am not able to make contact with the Pinetown branch on tel 031-7100100 or 035 5500273 to find out progress on the ID application form. No one answers these contact telephone lines. I am not able to take off from work each time to go to home affairs to confirm progress.

Something is failing. Who can I contact?

With all the hype about the government departments being this and that, credit has to be given where it is due, Home Affairs Pinetown has certainly come to the party in upping their game, their staff are really efficient and well trained and so quick to give you answers, it was so refreshing going in there, well done to you guys. My morning turned into something I had never knew was possible, something I guess a little odd but something I will remember for a long while, a lady came up to me whilst I was there and asked if I wouldn't mind being a witness to her wedding, I was so overwhelmed that it could actually be done there, and I was so curious and an instant excitement came over me, I was more than happy to oblige, to my surprise, we were escorted into this little room and things where rather similar to a normal wedding procedure in terms of vows, well to be honest, I felt like I had attended a wedding LOL....and it cost them just R40. Wow - thank you Home Affairs Pinetown for making my morning a morning I won't forget in a very long while.

Home Affairs in Pinetown offer a variety of services to the public on a daily basis. From Birth Certificates right down to Weddings. I applied for a passport and these folks were so helpful and efficient and had my passport within the two weeks, even though there were numerous Public Holidays over this period. Way to go folks, keep up the brilliant work.

Absolute nightmare!!! Went in with my daughter to apply for her 1st ID book. The queue was out the door and after 2 hrs eventually made it inside only to find another long snaking queue. They only have 1 person processing ID applications, 1 person doing passport applications, 1 person doing fingerprints and yes you guessed it 1 person taking payments. Eventually gave up after 3 and a half hours. Very frustrating - avoid like the plague

I am still waiting for my id book 7 weeks later. I re-applied at the pinetown office. Mine was lost wen my car was hijacked. I was told I would get an sms when it is ready for collection; and it would take about 2 weeks. No sms yet , so about two weeks ago after failing to contact them telephonically I went to the office - it wasn't ready. I cannot get through on the landline number listed. Such shabby service!!!! definitely a thumbs-down. ayesha
