I don't have any time for bullshit, I just want to apply for my passport and go on a holiday. nobody wants to work there. to the person in charge of them please do something urgently before you read the headlines "HOME AFFAIRS OFFICIAL GETS HEAD SMASHED WITH BASEBALL BAT" .... Shocking service when applying for my ID. The centre was absolutely filthy with application papers all on the floors and dirty floors etc. Prior to that there was no answers on their phones. The staff at the centre were unhelpful. I asked them if there is a general queue or if the queues were specific, they said that its not there problem and continued to ignore and carried on with their conversation. The queues were very long and this was accompanied by a set of untrained staff and every client seemed disgruntled at the service. The staff were very lackluster, unfriendly, some of them just ignored some of the clients queries and said that they should just read the pamphlets. They were also very inefficient. Those in the queues were very restless which was understandable as some of them have been waiting for hours. However the most shocking thing I have seen there is when a lady told a client to go back to the queue midway through processing as she said she is now on lunch which broke out into an argument.

    Good afternoon
I was shocked at the the service that i have received on two occassions when dealing with the department of home affairs Umgeni Road.
first experience was when i tried calling the offices to find it if i could collect my sons I.D. on his behalf (as i didnt know that if a person is older than 15 years has to collect it himself), there was no reply, so I called Mr Nzuza as i saw his cell number on the website only to be told by him that that was his private cell number and i should call the office as he is not in the office and he cannot help me in a very irritated tone and he cut the call.
i called the office again only to have the phone continously ringing.

second experience: went to the office on saturday, waited in the line for more than 2 hours before they opened and waited a further one and half hours before going inside the office, when asked for a receipt (which we didn't receive on our date of application), the lady told us in a very rude tone that we will find the information on the sms that was sent, gave it to her as she asked and moved on with just a small pice of page with a number written on it and sat again waiting for our number to be called out. the same lady then announced that we should give her our numbers and receipts, when she took my number she gave it back to me and told me that i should write the id number on that small piece of page, when that was done, she said she could see it and i should go and rewrite it. Her tone was very rude. Just can't believe that people who have such nasty attitudes are employed at the department of home affairs where they have to deal with hundreds of people on a daily basis. I can only imagine how she must be treating other people. They have to time to laugh and make stories among themselves instead of doing their work faster so that they can accommodate more people.

I recently had the great pleasure ( sarcasm of course) of having to go to home affairs umgeni road , first time I queued for 2 and a half hours only to get to the front to be told online verification is "offline" I very irate phoned Mr Nzuza in charge of the department not to have his assistant tell me he is very busy sorry thanks bye and hang up while I was talking! I then sent an email , 5 minutes later the supervisor Mr Mkhize calls me to apologize he will go see why security is not helping at the door properly but to please come again when I'm back from JHB! I then have the joyous occasion of enduring a half hour wait in the heat outside before another 2 and a half hours in the queue inside and to get to the front to be told I don't have the forms I need ( please note the counter staff gave me what I "needed" the last time I was there ,apparently NOT) I call for the supervisor because I explained everything the week before , he now stands with his badge " Mr MKhize " telling me I'm mad he didn't phone me , laughing !!! I blew a valve sense of humor failure ..... ( happens after waiting 3hpurs for 2 lack luster home affairs officials to serve only 30 people ) I then March to the manager , surprise not in the building again for the second week , email Mr Nzuza and call and get a reply saying another official gave me the forms ! That's it ???? That's all I get ???? Lack of service runs higher than the department itself if the head is rotting the rest of the fish will !!

Please email all your complaints to [email protected] , maybe if we all inundate them with complaints something will finally be done about these useless officials who do not appreciate that they even have a job when there are thousands of people praying and desperate for a job!

Sad that any person should have to deal with such lack of service. My heart goes out to the people that travel far on public transport, those who have taken days off work , those who can't afford to make a second trip .....wake up government you are crippling your people!!!

    Hi
I applied for a full birth Certificate for my daughter at Commercial Road(Durban) offices in 2011 June 14.
When I went to check for it I was told to re-apply for there was no records on their system. I called 0800 6011 90 to confirm if there was no record and they did confirm. The consultant on thi number advised me to do the following
    * fill in BI 24 & BI 288
    *Copy- scan function 653
    *post- track no:head office
    *scan function 122/035
*mark urgent with case number 1501 0508 29 on top

I did all this and a follow up every week where I was told they are still working on the case.
I went to Umngeni Offices again explained every step I took.I was given same forms to fill and re-applied.

I received a call last month to collect the certificate at Umngeni Office. When I was there , I was told to go to Commercial Road Offices ask for certificate print-out(the first application) thereafter I can go back to Umngeni Offices to print the latest one.Its been a month trying to get that printout from Commercial and they say Off-line or there is no one to attend me at that Meeter Greet section.last time I went there was this morning and same thing happened after waiting from 7:30 till 9:40am.

I needed this when my daugther started senior primary schooling now she needs to move to Durban Girls High School in 2016 and she might loose her space there because of this certificate.

The service at Durban umgeni home affairs is pathetic. The staff members have no urgency at all. A lot of counters are empty because they are busy chatting amongst themselves and not worried about the queues that needs to be attended. Very dissapointing I must say. I was here even yesterday and went back home without the assistance and came back today and I dont see myself being attended to with my ID application. The department needs to do something about this seriously

My journey to the Commercial Road Home Affairs. I stand in a long queue to apply for I/d. I produce an affidivat stating that my daughter was hijacked & my bag with id was in the car. So he fills in my daughters i/d no & gives me a no to sit down & wait. 2 hours later, I get called up. When I hand in my documents, the lady tells me that my id no differs when I questioned she states to me my i/d no starts with 890328. I am a 50 year old women standing in front of her as much as I was so thrilled that she thought I was 26 years I could not believe how unconscious she was. I was then told that no this affidivat will not due - i need to get a new one so I question why was I not told this initially after two hours you tell me this. I got the affidivat & returned. They changed the number & everyone who had a number after me was called up. When I questioned then someone decided wake up. I was delightly surprised when I received an sms less than 10 days later to state my i/d was ready. I hurry back to my favourite home affairs. I get to the meter greeter to ask where do i fetch my id. No eye contact, not a single person in front of him summons me to the security. 15/16 was the 2 numbers mentioned by the guard who were very busy having a conversation. I sit in this queue waiting to be attended to. One person issuing a no the other handing out the documents & 5 minutes later, the one person decides to leave. 20 minutes later a gentleman arrive who looked like he had just got up from a deep sleep. He was yawning rubbing his eyes & nose & looked like he was not happy to be there at all. The person next to me said the gentleman is free you can go to him, so i approached his counter only to hear "I DID NOT CALL YOU SIT THERE". 10 minutes later he decides to call me to hand my i/d but i still have to wait for the other for a passport. First time i had lost my id, i think its more a punishment to go to home affairs. Their closing time is 4.00pm, my daughter went yesterday @ 2.10pm sorry we are not taking anymore was the meter greeter's response so she explained that she works & it was 2 hours before they closed. His response even if you come back next, you will have the same problem. Come on Home affairs employ staff with people skills.

So one goes to renew your Passport and there is a queue a mile long. The person behind the counter seems to have just gotten out\ of bed and not in any hurry to help you. I was shocked. Come on South Africa, catch a wake up!

The Home Affairs in Durban was recently renovated; new tiles and benches were put in, giving the place a new improved look. Security was also upgraded. The passport and visa department moved to a separate room making it more convenient for travelers to apply for travel documents. While you may still have the few lazy staff who pretend to be busy or waste a lot of time with only one person; there are some staff who are professional and helpful. I'm pleased with the positive changes that are taking place at Home Affairs.
