We went to the Whippet for a friend's birthday a few weeks ago and it was my first time there, despite having heard about it a number of times. There was a bit of a queue outside but a very helpful staff member was getting people's phone numbers and making a list to keep things organised so we didn't have to wait too long to get seated.

The service was great the whole time we were there even though they were very busy! The food was absolutely delicious although a little overpriced, but I think you pay a premium for the vibe and the popularity of the place. Overall I would definitely go again and I would recommend it to friends.

Had an delicious breakfast here with my ex-boss this morning!! Great service and very friendly staff. My ex-boss had a croissant with bacon and scrambled eggs and, because I didn't want bread, asked the waitress whether it was possible to just have two fried eggs, crispy bacon and mushrooms. In all honesty I did not ask what it would cost but was horrified when the bill came to see that I had been charged for 1 x simple breakfast @ R33-00, 1 x bacon @ R17-00 and 1 x mushrooms @ R16-00 - total of R66-00. I quietly went and discussed it with the Manageress who politely told me that it does mention, on the menu, that you will be charged extra for any deviations to the menu, to which I politely responded that I had not looked at the menu and did not order a Simple Breakfast!! My next question was: although I am happy to pay R17-00 for bacon and R16-00 for mushrooms, wouldn't you have a problem paying R33-00 for two fried eggs? She seemed a little reluctant to refund me any monies but handed me back R25-00. I will definitely be back because the food was great, the service was excellent and the vibes early in the morning was terrific.

Recently went to the Whippet for breakfast with my parents and my daugher. Great venue but a bit on the small side one has to wait at least 30 mins for a table on a Saturday morning. We all ordered something different and we each enjoyed our choice. Coffee is excellent. Service is good just find they want to rush to get you out so that they can get the next crowd in. One needs to check ones slip carefully I was charged for nine anchovy toast breakfasts wondered why the bill was so high!!!! One needs to end with a piece of fudge.

Looking for a place to have a pleasant breakfast or lunch? This is the place. Staff was friendly and greeted me as I walked in. My order took no time at all, and the food was amazing. The ambience inside and outside is very urban and seemed like a great place to have a small business meeting or just sit back and relax for a bit.

Lovely little cafe in Linden. It stands out from the traditional restaurants in the area. The modernistic ambience attracts many of teh yuppies living and working in the area. Coffe is great.

I had heard so many good things about The Whippet, and they weren't false. It reminded me so much of Cape Town. Hipster, clean design, delicious food. The service was friendly and the breakfasts we had were delicious! The prices weren't ludicrous either. I have heard that the Eggs Benedict is incredible and the Breakfast Bowl - a potato, sausage, pepper and herb hash with crunchy toast on the side, was wonderful. I felt full afterwards and the small slice of Bar One fudge (R5) afterwards was exactly the sweetness I needed. Our drinks were great too - pour over iced teas and excellent coffee. I'll definitely be going back to try their lunches and cakes too. I'm going to make this my new place.

My family and I went to The Whippet for a breakfast and coffee. We ordered a variety of items off the menu and we were definitely not disappointed. The coffee is delicious and the service was fast.

My only gripe is that you can't make bookings

    Lovely little place in Linden.
Great food - they have the best burgers in town!
They had a gorgonzola burger the one evening and it was AMAZING.
Also, had a white chocolate tart once - THE BEST EVER!

The vibe is also really nice. Perfect for a relaxed Saturday brunch or a bustling weekday lunch.

I love how much effort also goes into their decor, management and online social presence. They have a blog that they update frequently and invest a great deal of time in improvement and the Linden community.

Awesome experience; would recommend them to everyone.

I absolutely loved The Whippet in Linden! The quaint little neighbourhood lunch spot is all about supporting local, so all the products used in their kitchen and sold on their shelves are sourced locally. With spacious wooden tables and plenty of counter space the Whippet is the perfect place for a lazy lunch with friends or to get some work done – they’ve got free Wi-Fi and plugs for your laptop and their coffee is amazing. I loved their menu which features salads, burgers, tapas platters, muffins, cakes, breakfast and sandwiches.

The Whippet is a fantastic Cafe/Coffe shop in Linden. Very modern with amazing service and a personal touch from the owner. We met Jaco yesterday and I highly recommend you try them out.

Dropped in for a refreshment at this super new establishment in the heart of Linden, with young and energetic owners, which has 'upped the ante' on the rapidly growing 'Linden Strip'in 4th Avenue. Taking some cues from the Vovo Telo decor model, the establishment boasts beautiful hardwood tabling, on polished concrete floors with 'distressed' white table legs. Bustlingly busy on a Saturday morning, seemed to be frequented by a more 'yuppie' crowd than it's immediate competitors. A distinctive feature was the 'Consol' peach bottling bottles, used for lampshades, some drinking glasses as well as containers for the 'bill' (appropriate given that the farm Linden was peach growing country). Also interesting was the 'local is lekker' food sourcing focus - keeping it all 'Linden' !!! We will be back for a longer visit and meal. Nice one guys !!!
