Situated on the eastern slopes of the Berea ridge, Durban Botanic Gardens is renowned for the rarest original specimen of a plant in the world – a cycad named Encephalartos woodii. Initially the garden grew experimental tropical crops but today the extensive offerings include the herbarium, orchid house, cycad collection, a garden for the blind and a tea garden.

I've been here many times over the years! I remember in the 90's when I was studying the lecturers used to send us to Bot Gardens to sketch trees. I wasn't sure sure when it had to do with my studies but it was good to get out of the lecture hall.

I've been back recently with my family for a number of concerts & it really is a special place! You can easily get lots exploring the gardens. My kids love it too.

I lived in Durban for six months many years ago and this was my place of refuge throughout the whole time. The variety of trees, plants, and birds was completely amazing to me, as I am American and am used to North America plants and animals. I love that it is free (you can leave a donation, and I encourage.

On my last visit to Durban, the family decided to spend some time out at Durban Botanical gardens. We ended up spending a whole day thats how much we enjoyed it.Off we went with car packed and picnic basket in hand. I must say we were very impressed and definitely enjoyed the day.Its a good family place for the young and old.The gardens are well maintained, variety of plants. We took some great pictures with beautiful backgrounds It did get a bit busy but that just shows that a lot of people enjoy spending time here and its a popular spot. Its a place to relax, its calm and peaceful. Kids enjoying feeding the ducks. Definitely wont regret going here.

A beautiful garden with an array of different and unusual plants, flowers and trees. It is quiet, serene and you can walk around for hours, feeling relaxation take over.
The grounds are well maintained and the grass is always cut and looked after, perfect place for a family outing or a romantic picnic with your loved one.

A beautiful garden where you can walk around for hours admiring the different plant species, then taking out your picnic basket and having a leisurely lunch on the lush grass. The concerts in the Gardens are brilliant and so well organised. Parking is not big enough but it is still a must do if you are ever in Durban. I grew up walking through these gardens and now I still visit them often and enjoy every single moment in this blissful piece of Nature.

Botanical Gardens is just a whole load of awesomeness. When I hear people complain they have nothing to do, the hair on my back stands up, then I ask, have you ever been to Botanical Gardens. It is so peaceful and tranquil, you can grab a light bite to eat too so no excuses. I had my baby shower there 15 1/2 years ago and every so often when I have an hour to spare and I am down that way, I stop by and take a walk around. It is good for the soul, it is safe too.

Big, spacious and filled with very old trees that make it so historic. A lovely place to go for a picnic or just to look around at all the different plant species. If you are a plant lover this is a place to spend the entire day. It is stunningly beautiful and I can go back there over and over again and never tire of all the beauty that surrounds me.

One of the most beautiful places in durban and a must visit on a beautiful day, they have a beautiful little tea shop that serves all manner of teas and scones and other delights. Bring bread to feed the ducks and goose etc. So much to see and many a spot to relax on a picknick blanket under. Hosts concerts and other such events regularly, a definite visit of you love nature.
