What a whole lot of fun, it reminded me so much of how Victoria Street Market used to be years ago. The old scales that are used to weigh the vegetables etc...the bargains, the different things to eat and drink oh wow....the best was the condensed milk and vanilla and milk mixed together, it was such a hit amongst the crowd and SO TASTY.....what an experience and a whole lot of fun.

This market is very energetic market with stalls piled high with tropical fruits and vegetables and also mountains of spices. This place is always crowded with locals and tourists.Everything can be found in there from vegetables to meat to clothes. The products and services are unlimited in central market. A part of the market sells food products such as fruits; vegetables etc and you find a pungent smell in the air. You will find an open space with numerous vendors selling fresh and appealing vegetables and fruits. There is also a snack area where all sorts of Mauritian snacks are sold from the common dhal puri to chicken sandwiches, fresh bread, tea, coffee and the typical Mauritian refreshing drink Alouda. In the market an automatic staircase is installed for your ease. A part of the market sells food products such as fruits; vegetables etc and you find a pungent smell in the air. The famous 'bazar porlwi' has inspired artists and authors alike. The colonial touch has been kept even after renovation. Always bustling with activities, the bazar remains a major tourist attraction which features in all important tourist brochures. The array of products is vast. One will find craft products from authentic sources. The folkloric aspect of Mauritius pervades the place. don't come out from there without having relished a cold 'alouda', the most famous drink of the bazar. Ask for the 'marsan latisane' and you'll surely be impressed by all the miracle herbs he has.

A nice place to search for bargains; but one must be street-smart, and aware of the prices in other parts of the market, in indeed other parts of Mauritius. Enquire prices at several places, e.g. for t-shirts, and then go knowledgeably negotiate at the chosen vendor.
